When Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies in 1492 and claimed them for Spain, it was not only the Spanish who benefited from the sugar and tobacco cultivation and the exotic spices, plants and fruits of this region, but later also the Danes, Dutch, English and French.
In 1870, Truefitt created ‘West Indian Limes’ from the leaves and flowers of the citrus plant in combination with other fragrances. This fragrance quickly became the favourite scent of Queen Victoria and, of course, the entire royal household.
The royal bouquet of ‘West Indian Limes’ was developed especially for Queen Victoria on the occasion of her coronation as Empress of India. Even today, this exotic, spicy-floral fragrance is still one of the favourites at the British royal court.
