Tiziana Terenzi - Sienè

During a journey of discovery of the most beautiful places in Italy and, above all, of the marvels of Tuscany, we came across one of the oldest and most important cities of the Renaissance — Siena. A city which, even today, still exudes the nobility of the Medici dynasty. This city — the home of the world's oldest Palio race, and which still today reverberates to the thunder of horses as proud and impetuous as the wind — is a living bastion against the march of time, with a splendid arrogance in resisting modernity and progress, but is also innovative and visionary, with a regal decadence of inescapable allure for anyone who experiences it for themselves. Then there is the countryside, with iron-rich red soil as generous as the people who live here, but as rocky and as hard as life on the craggy knife-edge of hills which can give so much, but can also take everything away in a heartbeat if you lack the courage to live in complete respect of its rules. In the valley, intense scents and perfumes combine with the strong, sharp smells of a nature that is wild yet gentle, to make it clear that you are in Tuscany even if you hadn't already noticed before, while the fire burning strongly on the hillside lightens the dusk.

This creation takes time to understand; it does not reveal itself easily to anyone, so take time — take as long as it takes — to comprehend its vertiginous peaks, as this is an arduous challenge for even the most expert nose. What you are experiencing is art expressed in its most complex, unique form. The composition opens with notes of juniper paired with cypress — the symbolic tree of Tuscany — accompanied by the distinctive aroma of centuries-old olive trees offset by the bark of Tuscan poplar. This complex, unique top — with wood notes normally found in the base underpinning the structure of a perfume — sits heavily and predominantly on an even more complex middle which disorients even the most experienced, expert nose, with echoes of red Indian patchouli intertwined with the mystique of frankincense and myrrh contrasting boldly against Tuscan leather. This highly complex and unique structure calls for an even more complex base with the character and strength needed to sustain such an intricate, irreverent pyramid conceived only for those with the spirit to understand it completely. The base opens with the tangy sweetness of Tuscan acacia honey, paired with the mellow strength of “magical drop Terenzi” — with its ambergris musk and …. — blended skilfully with the strength of Indian sandalwood and Cambodian Oud, for a persistence and a trail capable of lasting up until the next day.

Dedicated to one of the most beautiful cities we have ever had the fortune to visit, where the fire of tradition and history still burns strongly in the spirit of the elite few capable of truly comprehending its beauty. Siena is not just a city to live in but a lifestyle inspiring you to feel truly alive!

The Terenzi family: the story of men and women who understood how to capture the ‘absolute’ in a drop of perfume and ‘life’ in a ‘drop of wax’.

The Cereria Terenzi

The Cereria Terenzi was founded 40 years ago in Cattolica, in a space measuring just 16 square metres (172 square feet). The founder, Evelino Terenzi, wanted to continue the family tradition with a great deal of innovation, as his father Guglielmo had been involved in setting up a wax production business that made devotional and Easter candles for churches. He initially worked with his father and mother, who was called Luigia, until he pursued his own interest in making birthday candles. He owed his initial success to the invention of a new type of wax that made candles more resistant to impact, but also to his own idea of making candles that could essentially be used as food without posing any health risks. He decided to use food-grade paraffin, which greatly improved the safety of the candles. This was particularly innovative at the time, as environmental and health issues were not nearly as important as they are today. From then on, the company grew to become the most important wax producer in Italy and one of the most important in Europe. This provided work for many people. Today, San Giovanni in Marignano is at the forefront of the company. Just a few kilometres away in Cattolica live Evelino's children, Paolo and Tiziana, who carry on the spirit of the founder and his respect for this ancient and fine craft, a craft whose origins are lost in the mists of time.

Paolo and Tiziana made a conscious decision to continue on this path of respect for the environment, their employees and the health of their customers. Tiziana Terenzi, manager, design and creative director, says: ‘A candle is beauty; you cannot create beauty without also creating well-being. Beautiful things must also be good things.’ This is why the Cereria has received many awards over the years, including the ‘Crescita Responsabile’ prize, which is awarded to companies that stand out for their ethical approach, their concern for social issues and environmental protection, and their membership of the Banca delle Eccelenze to promote the ‘Made in Italy’ concept. Recognition and awards are undoubtedly a sign of appreciation. However, when you hear the Terenzi siblings talk about the history of the company, it becomes clear how much they value the idea of following in the footsteps of their father Evelino in terms of fairness and correctness: his ancestors were also pioneers of an ancient and honourable craft, which has now been enriched by innovative technology and ethical business practices. In the land of engines and mechanics, technical ingenuity becomes creativity, which in turn is expressed in functional design and a tireless passion for research and development.
