Like a breathtakingly atmospheric symphony, Tambour Sacré translates the sensual yet mystical impetus of African rhythms. Cristiano Canali interprets this sound in a dance with the facets of Calabrian bergamot and cardamom. These are brought to life by the spiciness of pepper, which is as enchanting as the intimate embrace of hazelnut. The dark notes of roasted coffee sweep over an exposed pentagram of tuberose in a primal, almost erotic contrast, growing piece by piece with the intoxicating heat of cinnamon. The orchestral soundscape of sandalwood and balsam adds volume; the spiritual depth of Somalian myrrh with its iridescent wisps and the splendour of benzoin together with tonka bean echo in an oriental gourmand spell like the mysteries of the Queen of Sheba.
The inspiration – the Horn of Africa
Like music, perfume is an art of time: sounds and scents come to us, captivate us and disappear. The plane takes off and when you look out of the window, your gaze is lost on the horizon, where the blue kisses the red ochre: here, scents and sounds wash over us again so intensely that they drown out the roar of the engines. Like the primordial frequency of the universe, their vibrations spread out in a circular wave from within.
The pulsating scents of spices and smoke, the whirling of sacred drums in Ethiopia are part of every ritual, from religious ceremonies to everyday customs. At the end of the Omo Valley, the flow of time and senses is marked by these mysterious woods. Just as music can play the chords of the soul invisibly yet captivatingly, so life dances on the Horn of Africa with bodies painted black, ochre and clay, sparkling in the eyes of women as intensely as tuberoses left in a closed room, and offering travellers refuge in villages with the greatest hospitality.
The object
The legendary design of the Rubini packaging is expressed as pure rhythm in the flow of dense and fragile layers and in the random imperfections of the iroko wood. Iroko is a sacred tree for many African peoples, whose wood is traditionally used to build houses and musical instruments, including drums. As with Glebanite, the true luxury lies in the attention to detail: the wood has been recycled and each piece is a unique work of art, made entirely by hand and nestled between two shells – the magnetic harmony of Tambour Sacré.
