Penhaligon's fragrance creation Endymion draws on the dazzling world of Greek mythology. The Prince Endymion asked Zeus for eternal youth and beauty. In order to accomplish this modest wish Zeus put him into an everlasting sleep. The moon goddess Selene discovered the beautiful sleeping prince and fell in love with him.
Endymion is a sensual blend of Hesperides, spices and leather. Bergamot, tangerine, lavender and sage open the composition in order to smoothly slide into a dark heart of coffee and geranium. Resins such as frankincense and myrrh ascend and mingle with vetiver accents, nutmeg, black pepper, cardamom, musk, sandalwood and leather to offer a richly decorated base. A carefully balanced but overall fine and elegant fragrance.
Because her sleeping lover is unreachable, the moonlight which Selene lets shines upon the earth every night is melancholic. On a full moon we can still see this particular shine and imagine her yearning for her one great love. A small crescent moon on the packaging of Endymion reminds us of this story.
