Parfums MDCI presents ‘Cuir Garamante’, a sophisticated ambergris leather fragrance with a strong character. The oud creation is introduced by saffron, pink pepper and spicy nutmeg. The heart reveals a warm blend of agarwood (oud), rose and papyrus, framed by a leather note. The base of vanilla and sandalwood is enriched with a lush and resinous labdanum note, paired with precious incense.
The fragrance unfolds subtly, leaving an animalistic yet sensual and attractive trail.
The inspiration
"I have always been attracted to deserts, and I remember certain trips to the Egyptian desert – the Siwa Oasis, among others – when I was very young.
Something very specific awakens in the morning hours in the desert, something pure, but also filled with the scent of the few plants that grow there. Inevitably, this evokes memories of other fragrant things, such as the leather of the bags and equipment or the dry wood we collected for the campfire...
Even in later years, I am still impressed by these overwhelming landscapes, reinforced by further excursions in southern Morocco and by reading about the incredible Sahara journeys of the French explorer, scientist and philosopher Théodore Monod.
One of his works in particular, entitled “The Emerald of the Garamantes”, fascinated the rock collector and desert lover in me, as it was my first introduction to the lost world of this ancient people.
The name “Garamantes” immediately conjures up images of the scorching sun, the immense dryness and sandy expanses where people managed to survive and even grow plants, travel and trade...
The history of the Garamantes is a rich source of inspiration for the imagination, so it seemed appropriate to name this great fragrance after them..." Claude Marchal
