Les Jardins d'Armide, the symbol of beauty, full of lush fragrant flowers and the rarest spices. These wonderful gardens remained a myth for a long time, but the success of the Renaissance myth of Armida gave new impetus to these incomparable fantasy gardens.
Armida was a sorceress of great beauty and seductive power. After falling in love with the knight Rinaldo, she created an enchanted garden where she kept him as a lovesick prisoner.
Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, Armida's gardens were a constant theme in music (Lully, Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn, Rossini ...), painting (Poussin, Van Dyck, Tiepolo, Fragonard ...) and literature, most notably by the Italian Torquato Tasso and his 16th-century epic poem ‘Jerusalem Delivered’.
In 1909, the fragrance house Oriza L. Legrand offered the perfume ‘Jardins d'Armide’ in its prestigious boutique at 11 Place de la Madeleine, as a tribute to the legendary gardens and the magical seductive power of Armida.
The rose, queen of flowers, is at the heart of this enchanting bouquet, picked in Armida's garden. Iris from Florence and wild violets combine with wisteria and carnation, while honey, almond and musk lend this seductive elixir its incomparable strength.
