A woody invitation to an intense and mysterious walk
Captivating and intense – Woody Mood has strong notes that reflect the immensity of the giant sequoia trees. The composition skilfully uses this impression of height, depth and density to create a natural mood that seems to reveal a dreamlike light. You approach this fragrance in the same way that this mysterious heroine approaches the forest. A clarifying, hypnotic light that arouses curiosity: bright notes of bergamot and ginger pave the way, then an accord of redwood, black tea, incense and jatamansi (Indian nard) settles in, followed by the final enchantment of notes of styrax, leather and patchouli.
Unexplored nature, thousand-year-old trees, a silence that could only be disturbed by the footsteps of a shadowy silhouette. This is exactly what is expected of a fragrance: it should creep up on you on tiptoes before settling on a beautiful scent.
In autumn 2016, in the corridors of the Paris Photo art fair, under the glass dome of the Grand Palais in Paris, Céline Verleure, founder of Olfactive Studio, saw a fascinating image. Flooded with light and full of timeless strength, the effect was immediate. Something magical happened. This image was taken in 1973, but it could just as easily have been yesterday. The photographer was Roger Steffens, who embodied California's hippie culture like no other. The image shows huge redwood trees, probably in Mondocino, where he spent a lot of time. In keeping with the principle that is important to Olfactive Studio, the mood of an image leads to the search for an olfactory interpretation. In this way, its secret facets can be revealed, brought to life and allowed to blossom.
In this first collaboration with Olfactive Studio, Bertrand Duchaufour transforms the image into a woody and enchanting fragrance. Woody Mood is the name of this vision turned into fragrance. An atmospheric and bright sensation, the aura of humus, earth, wood, primal sensations and air particles... A warm and powerful woody accord that evokes redwood trees, while another creation from the house, ‘Autoportrait’, evokes a more familiar cedarwood scent. Woody Mood is the continuation of the photographic work entitled ‘The Redwood Alien’. “Redwood” stands for the unique scent of red fibre wood and ‘Alien’ for the light that comes from somewhere, like an extraterrestrial ray of light that enchants an unknown woman and is accompanied by an orange reflection, a strange UFO.
