Neandertal deals with fundamental existential questions such as ‘Where do we come from?’ and ‘Where are we going?’ It is an attempt to understand human experiences outside of ourselves.

Neandertal is an artistic response to the questioning of the status quo and humanity's inherently egocentric view of the universe and our place in it. From the first hominids to walk the Earth to the unknown future in the space age, Neandertal explores these questions.

As a first step in this exploration, artist and founder Kentaro Yamada created the perfume Neandertal to explore the analogies between the lingering echoes of our past and olfactory resonance. The result is contemporary, highly original and experimental fragrance structures, free from the conventional and traditional standards of perfumery.

The Neanderthals

Neanderthals are believed to have lived in Eurasia for over 450,000 years, almost five times longer than Homo sapiens. Recent scientific discoveries have also shown that Neanderthals were highly developed beings who mastered language, used fire and created cave art, long before us. However, 50,000 years after we settled alongside them, Neanderthals had all but disappeared, leaving behind much speculation about their ultimate demise.

These two fragrances take us on an olfactory journey deep into humanity's past, giving voice to a lost culture whose DNA lives on today only through us. At the same time, they celebrate a future that they themselves could never see.
