Bakhoor (pronounced Barrour) is an incense ritual in the Arab world that was originally performed by Bedouins. It involves dipping a type of incense cake made from compressed oud wood chips (often in the form of a tablet) into perfume oils made from incense, flowers, resins and sandalwood.
The dried pieces give off an intense fragrance when burned. This ritual inspired Montale to create Bakhoor, a wild and smoky fragrance composition that once again demonstrates Montale's mastery of oriental essences.
