Immortally different – a new way to experience roses
Sandalwood nuances of tart, leafy green freshness herald its arrival. Then, on its spicy rose stem, the hundred-petalled rose awakens: subtle at first, then with self-assured openness and presence. The Rosa Centifolia lasciviously reveals its body, striving towards light and life with cool buds.
It radiates, blossoms, endures. It is the rose that has come to conquer and stay.
In the words of Gertrude Stein: A rose is a rose is an icon
Like all creations from the house, the character of Schwarzlose Berlin's latest rebirth defies conventional fragrance expectations. Rosa Centifolia is deeply rooted in its history as probably the most legendary perfume from the Berlin fragrance manufacturer – and surprisingly reinvents the perception of roses. It opens up a whole new world for roses without gender boundaries. The credo of Rosa Centifolia 2022, whose blossom hovers coolly above the warmth of woods and spices, is accordingly: Expect the unexpected.
The iconic Rosa Centifolia is at the heart of some of the world's most prestigious perfumes. Its flowers are always harvested in the freshness of the early morning so that hundreds of aromatic molecules can contribute to the exceptionally rich scent profile of Rosa Centifolia. It is characterised by elegant pastel nuances, which are given structure and volume by a lemony facet and a very light peppery effect, among other things. In the tenth Schwarzlose composition, Rosa Centifolia Absolue develops a transparent, cool note with an earthy, sensual intensity that is anything but fleeting.
Background
Since 2012, the Berlin-based perfume manufacturer has been synonymous with fragrances that pay homage to their origins by combining zeitgeist and timelessness. Schwarzlose wrote its greatest success story with Rosa Centifolia: launched in 1912, the fragrance, advertised by silent film star Edmonde Guy, quickly became internationally renowned. Its success rubbed off in the literal sense: from then on, the pink of the bottle design characterised the stationery, catalogues and advertising material of the Berlin fragrance house.
The lettering is based on the historic Rosa Centifolia bottle and can now be found again on all sizes. The lettering is in typical Art Nouveau style – or Secession style.
Véronique Nyberg on the androgynous rose
‘In my interpretation of the rose, sensual pleasure and the magic of seduction come together. Enveloped in cardamom and vetiver, the perfume plays with feminine and masculine codes and wraps itself in an aura of androgynous energy,’ says Véronique Nyberg, who collaborated with the fragrance manufacturer on Schwarzlose Berlin's 10th ‘In combination with osmanthus absolute, the animalistic and subtly sexual nature of the rose comes to life.’ This very mature signature deliberately breaks with convention and allows the bouquet of Rosa Centifolia to blossom in a completely new niche.
