In the midst of one of the lesser-known heat waves in 18th-century England, Juan Floris, at the behest of his wife Elizabeth, created a fragrance designed to make the oppressive summer heat in London more bearable.
The result is a vibrant explosion of lime, accompanied by petitgrain and a refreshing heart of lemon blossom, neroli and lily, which in turn meets a base of musk.
The original handwritten recipe is still kept in the Floris archives after 200 years and has been re-released every summer in a limited summer edition since that heatwave. This has made the perfume an indispensable favourite for many Floris customers.
