From the moment it opened in 1951, Positano’s Hotel Le Sirenuse was a preferred destination of what was known as “la bella gente”, the beautiful people, at a time when those who travelled were decidedly few and privileged. It was the beginning of what came to be known as la dolce vita, and Le Sirenuse was by definition the place where all this happened on Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
Along the years things have changed, but the beauty of Positano and the luxurious glamour of Le Sirenuse have not. So it was in preparation of the 60th anniversary of the Hotel that we found ourselves looking at old photographs stashed away in forgotten boxes, and enjoying the view of life as it was then: the dresses, the jewels, the hair-dos, and the chic summer parties in Positano.
And that’s how the inspiration came about for a fragrance to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Le Sirenuse, an Eau de Parfum that would conjure up the image of the glamorous women who stayed with us in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Think Grace Kelly, Liz Taylor or Jackie Kennedy - they all used to come to Le Sirenuse - on a cool summer morning, head tied in a printed silk scarf, large dark sunglasses, boarding a wooden Riva speedboat headed to Capri, Un Bateau pour Capri.
Or think of the many beauties we found in those old photos, some famous, others less, but all of them enjoying life in the most feminine of fashions: dinner-jacketed beaux on their arms, scarlet lips, and a floral, powdery, so very defining scent on their skin.
