Eau d'Italie - Au Lac

On the Isolino, a tiny island in the heart of Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy lies an elegant nineteenth-century villa surrounded by a luscious garden amid placid lake waters. It was in the golden years of the early 20th century that this garden was the setting for one of the most intriguing love stories, that of the ravishing princess Vittoria Colonna and Umberto Boccioni, the vibrant young painter who was among the founders of the artistic movement of Futurism.

Theirs was a short, intense love affair that embodied the cultural upheaval of the times and the encounter of two aesthetic concepts: the tradition of romanticism expressed by Vittoria, whose romantic spirit led her to create the beautiful garden on the shores of Lake Maggiore, and the iconoclast and avant-garde artist Boccioni, whose paintings and sculptures express the dynamic innovation at the heart of Futurism.

Nearly a century later, when the time arrived for Eau d´Italie to create its first feminine floral fragrance, there was no doubt: it had to be a real Italian floral with the qualities of a classic, but with an innovative contemporary twist: an avant-garde romantic floral...

This was the inspiration for ”Au Lac” (”By the lake”): a fragrance that tells of a passionate love affair in a gorgeous Italian garden in the middle of summer, the air filled with the scent of flowers and surrounded by the peaceful waters of a lake. To create these exquisitely beautiful notes Eau d´Italie has worked with legendary nose Alberto Morillas, to deliver a magnificent fragrance capable of blending the deep beauty of a truly feminine floral into the vibrant, dynamic frame of a Futurist painting.

Mehr über Eau d'Italie

For once, Eau d'Italie's inspiration does not stem from a journey or a love affair, but nevertheless tells the story of a great passion — namely for a hotel: Le Sirenuse, a luxurious gem with just a few dozen rooms, which nevertheless boasts five stars and has won numerous awards. It is located on Italy's beautiful Amalfi Coast in the picturesque village of Positano, which has always been popular with tourists. Positano is known above all for its vibrant colours and the many steep alleyways and stairways that make up the town's image: John Steinbeck once called Positano ‘the only vertical place in the world’.

Le Sirenuse, the small but beautiful hotel, is a family business and owned by the Sersales. Marina Sersale, scion of the family, pursued a career as a documentary filmmaker and producer after completing her studies, during which she travelled extensively around the world before finally settling in Rome, where she still lives today. It was there that she met Sebastián Alvarez Murena. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and comes from a family of writers. He lived in Spain and Switzerland before moving to Rome, where he now lives and works as a journalist and entrepreneur. In 2002, Marina and Sebastián began working on a new project: The development of a fragrance that celebrates Le Sirenuse's 50th anniversary and manages to capture the philosophy and spirit of the house. In 2004, the company's first fragrance, Eau d'Italie, was launched, accompanied by an exclusive range of body care products. At the same time, a selective distribution of the collection was launched, which was a great success — fortunately, the initial signature fragrance was followed by many other successful fragrances.
