David Benedek, the founder

bdk Parfums was founded in 2016 by French designer David Benedek, one of the youngest designers in the global perfume industry. Born in Paris in 1989, David Benedek grew up in a world of perfume. His father had Romanian roots and his mother was born on the border between Algeria and Morocco. His grandparents, who had been exiled from Transylvania, were among the first authorised distributors for renowned perfume brands such as Worth and Christian Dior in Paris in the 1950s. David lived and studied in Paris. It was here that he decided to learn everything there was to know about perfume and ingredients as part of his studies, working with professors and master perfumers from Givaudan, the world's largest manufacturer of flavours and fragrances. In 2012, he graduated from the IFM (Institut Français de la Mode). After completing his master's degree, he decided to continue his studies and took classes at Cinquième Sens, a prestigious organisation where he learned how to work with the different olfactory families and facets.


The culture

The bdk Parfums office is located in the first arrondissement of Paris, next to the Palais Royal, the heart of the city. This place is one of many where David Benedek finds his inspiration. He likes to go for walks here, drink coffee in the gardens and write most of his formulas in his office, where he also enjoys meeting friends and family. Today, bdk Parfums is represented in the largest Parisian boutiques specialising in niche perfumery and in a selection of department stores worldwide (Europe, Russia, Middle East, North America).


A modern olfactory library

David wants people to choose their perfume as they would choose a book in a library – a library where everyone can find their own book. By wearing a fragrance from bdk Parfums and reading the stories created by the brand, customers open their minds to an imaginary world. bdk Parfums wants customers to find a connection between the fragrance they choose and their imagination. bdk Parfums wants to make everyone's dreams come true.


The perfume encyclopaedia

The bookbinding-style encyclopaedia box set is produced by a family business in the Le Mans region of France. Natural ink and recycled paper are used in its manufacture. When placed side by side, this set of books forms an encyclopaedia of wonderful perfumes.
