Contemporary and interpreted in a baroque style, the precious geranium unfolds its full grace.
As a devilishly elegant still life in fragrance, Pelargonium portrays the splendour of the geranium that unfolds in the mysterious floral paintings of the Golden Age of Dutch painting.
‘Aesthetically, I was inspired by an old-school flower that everyone thinks they know, even though no one really does,’ says French perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer. She recreated geranium in an olfactory pyramid to reveal the complex facets of this precious ingredient. The nuances of freshly crushed leaves lend light and radiance to the dark woody and resinous aspects of the flower.
But wait, this eau de parfum, created in 2017, is not the red geranium from the front garden. Instead, it is Pelargonium graveolens. The botanical name stands for the special attribute of this flower: ‘sweet-smelling’. It provides one of the most volatile ingredients in perfumery. It is distilled not from the flowers, but from the leaves of the plant. For a long time, this ingredient was used exclusively to create a fresh rose note. This explains its colloquial name, ‘rose geranium’.
Here, however, says Feisthauer, she uses less the fruity and more the balsamic, almost incense-like aspect of geranium as the central motif of this fascinating composition. The perfumer stretches a canvas of cool iris notes into a clean cedarwood frame, so to speak. She then adds a base of smoky, dark Haitian vetiver, woody guaiac resin and moss. A few splashes of green cardamom and golden Calabrian bergamot flood the scene, punctuated by rich ingredients that give the formula fullness and contrast. The herbaceous sweetness of carrots enriches the iris accord; amber-scented clary sage suggests the caress of velvety leaves. The fragrance is completed with elemi resin, which smells of lemon, pepper and incense, and a hint of musk that provides the final kick. The magnificent floral bouquet of Pelargonium is a work of art that unfolds an abstract beauty whose unfathomable fascination and charisma are transferred to those who wear it.
Aedes de Venustas Pelargonium is now presented in a high-quality and sophisticatedly designed bottle: peacock blue accents mark the ribbed bottle. The cap is matt black and embossed with the brand's insignia. It is a harmoniously sleek yet powerful and striking design with which Aedes de Venustas begins the next chapter in its success story.
