Tekapo is named after the former glacial lake of the same name, nestled in the Mackenzie Basin in southern New Zealand. The name of the lake comes from the Maori word Takapō, which means ‘abandoned hastily in the night, to depart’.
Since 2021, both names have been used in parallel to honour the legend of the discoverer Rākaihautū. He was supposedly the captain of one of the many canoes that sailed from the mythical land of Hawaiki to New Zealand and is considered the ancestor of various so-called iwi, Maori tribes.
The picturesque region is known for its hot springs, nearby Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain, and Tekapo itself, which shines with its spectacular colour, a brilliant turquoise. When this disappears in the darkness of night, Tekapo enchants with a different quality – the area around the lake is a paradise for stargazers. The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve is the second best place in the world to enjoy the night sky and is therefore a UNESCO light protection area.
Tekapo is seductive and sensual with an exquisite blend of blackcurrants and the characteristic scent of precious saffron. Jasmine adds a delicate floral creaminess, dipped in delicious caramel. Amber envelops the skin like a noble aura, imparting spicy warmth. However, Tekapo is perfected by an ingredient that has been making the hearts of many perfume lovers beat faster for quite some time – Evernyl. Created by the hands of a true magician, its bitter-matte, tart-sweet and subtly fruity scent, which is modelled on oak moss and seems like a powder-kissed, lucid, radiant and simply divine variation of it, is simply unforgettable.
