Hiram Green Perfumes is relaunching its second fragrance, Shangri La. Shangri La was originally introduced in 2014 as the successor to the debut fragrance Moon Bloom. Production was discontinued in 2018, and since then customers have been asking for it to be brought back. Like all the fragrances in its collection, Shangri La is a purely natural eau de parfum.
The fragrance was inspired by and named after the fictional land described in James Hilton's 1933 novel Lost Horizon. Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mythical utopia in the Himalayas, an earthly paradise isolated from the rest of the world where people are almost immortal. Hiram translated the beauty and purity of Shangri-La into a contemporary interpretation of a classic chypre perfume.
Shangri La is a light and airy perfume with a lush and exotic character. The fragrance opens with a powerful burst of lemon, orange and bergamot, followed by a rich bouquet of peach, jasmine, iris, rose, cinnamon and warm spices. This opulent heart is anchored by an earthy base of vetiver and oak moss.
It takes a good nose to distinguish the 2022 edition from the original Shangri La. Perhaps the most noticeable difference is the stronger emphasis on floral and spicy notes.
Bergamot: Bergamot is bright, green and slightly bitter, lending the composition an invigorating freshness.
Peach: This ripe and sweet accord complements the floral notes at the heart of the perfume.
Labdanum: Although not a dominant note here, labdanum – the resin of the rockrose – is an essential component of a chypre accord.

Chypre perfumes are characterised by the contrast between a fresh citrus accord and a woody oak moss base. The first chypre perfume was created in 1917, and this genre has enjoyed enduring popularity ever since.
