On old maps, Tibet was depicted as a female body. Lhoka, located on the chest, is known as the soul of Tibet and the cradle of ancient Tibetan culture, which is more than 4,000 years old. Nestled between two mountain ranges, the Lhoka Plateau is one of the most important growing areas for highland barley, the daily staple food of the Tibetan people. The fertile land of Lhoka has enabled Tibetan civilisation to grow and flourish on the basis of barley. When summer comes to an end, the sun-drenched barley fields turn to gold. Pushed to its limits, the barley in the highlands is finally ready for harvest. The Tibetans celebrate this moment with a joyful ceremony and give thanks. Filling the air of the fields with the sound of bells, sacred chants and incense offerings, they celebrate this extraordinary harvest and thank nature for its bounty. The warmth of their hearts mingles with the fire of spices, the opulence and abundance of the freshly harvested grains.
