Story
‘Who needs love when there's cognac in the glass?’ – Philip Sava
Philip Sava's early works of discovery pushed the boundaries of postmodern fiction, revealing fantastical worlds that led many to believe they were real. Sava's kaleidoscopic collections, of which Memoirs of a Trespasser is undoubtedly the centrepiece, were based on true experiences from his exotic travels, but were imbued with such hallucinatory inventiveness that his work stands far apart from others in the genre.
Although Sava had many colleagues around the world, he spent most of his life alone on a ranch in southern Madagascar. When the press asked him about his reclusiveness, he famously replied, ‘Who needs love when you have cognac?’
