Indochine No. 25 by Parfumerie Générale transports us back to 1920 and Indochina, the former French colony that stretched across the territory of present-day Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. We travel along the majestic Mekong, one of the longest rivers on earth, which winds its way through Indochina and Thailand before finally flowing into the South China Sea.
The sepia-coloured light over the river is the last remnant of a fading dawn, and we glide through shy veils of mist before the sun finally envelops the day in glistening light. And how do we feel? We have to slow down, learn to endure the humidity and simply close our eyes. Behind the banks lies a dream, the immeasurable diversity of Indochina.
The fragrance
The central element of the composition is warm benzoin resin from Siam, which offers a broad olfactory palette. As gentle as the morning light on the Mekong, it smells of vanilla and has resinous, powdery, milky and spicy aspects.
With balanced notes, Pierre Guillaume draws on the full range of his talent and creates an orchestration that shines and is silky and airy, exploiting every facet of the balsamic raw material: pepper from Cambodia, tanakha wood from Burma and honey from Laos.
The balm appears sepia brown like the light of our river journey and gives Indochine No. 25 its very own unique shimmer.
