Silver Oud is an olfactory representation of Stendhal's 19th-century French novel ‘Red and Black’ and its intelligent and ambitious protagonist Julien Sorel. The novel reflects the most vivid and important experiences of life, marked by moments of distress and strength. Cécile Zarokian brings Silver Oud to life in a woody, amber-scented eau de parfum that showcases the precious oud in all its glory and pays tribute to the house's tradition of storytelling.
Inspired by the themes in ‘Red and Black’, in particular the concepts of confusion, passion and destruction, Silver Oud is a manifestation of the tension between idealism and realism, the contradiction between thought and feeling, and the power of mimetic desire.
The opening notes of patchouli molecular distillation, cypriol oil and Virginia cedar oil confuse with the absence of the expected top notes. Instead, a variety of woods come to the fore, heralding a deep development. At the heart of the creation, an exquisitely rich oud Assam oil dances in harmony with a profound Madagascan vanilla absolute – a delightful duo of contrasts. Meanwhile, amber aromas, birch oil, guaiac wood oil and castoreum leave dark impressions on the skin, with the smoky woods merging in an endless finale.
