Our times are characterised by constant change. What was true yesterday is already outdated today. Technology and modern means of communication have made our world smaller. All information is available simultaneously around the world and thus becomes globally relevant.
A time of extremes: extreme exploitation of nature is contrasted by extreme efforts to behave ethically. We seek variety, intense emotions, adventure – and at the same time inner peace, idyll and the here and now.
This zeitgeist is also reflected in Berlin – the capital and birthplace of the J.F. Schwarzlose company. Berlin is the city that never sleeps, that is constantly changing, the city of cultural diversity, the city of history and the future. Opposites constantly clash here: free spirits and traditionalists, austere architecture and wasteland, concrete and wild animals. It consists of countless people who only stay for a certain amount of time and thrives on those who have finally found their home in Berlin.
One of the creators of J.F. Schwarzlose, Tamas Tagscherer, had the ambitious goal of capturing this attitude to life in a fragrance. Based on his ideas, perfumer Véronique Nyberg attempted to combine the seemingly incompatible opposites of transience and presence. She used ingredients such as Amber Xtreme and Perubalsam to represent sexiness and freshness. A special musk complex of Nebulone and Edenolide embodies permanent change, while Leatherwood stands for progress and radicalism. The result is unique: a fragrance experience that is both fresh and seductive, fleeting like a summer shower and yet unforgettable, light as chiffon and yet profound.
Zeitgeist fits perfectly into this era: modern, full of contrasts, exciting and familiar in equal measure, and thus perfectly suited to the J.F. Schwarzlose portfolio. The traditional brand has always created fragrances that are contemporary while remaining classic and true to their respective eras – such as 1A–33 from 1910, a fragrance that made aldehyde components popular worldwide. The bottle and packaging of ‘Zeitgeist’ are classically minimalist and completely free of superfluous elements. Designer Lutz Herrmann wanted to draw attention to the contents with his ‘less is more’ concept: the simple J.F. Schwarzlose label and the name of the fragrance speak for themselves.
The traditional Berlin-based company J.F. Schwarzlose, founded in 1856, was revived in autumn 2012 after 40 years of dormancy. The three creators, Véronique Nyberg, Lutz Herrmann and Tamas Tagscherer, have set themselves the task of continuing the vision of the company that created world-famous fragrance fantasies for over 100 years. In the modern era, the J.F. Schwarzlose range will continue to be expanded with surprising, authentic and stylish products.
‘Zeitgeist’ – an exciting new creation from the traditional house of J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin, which transforms the contrasts of Berlin, the constant change and the progressiveness of the city into an eau de parfum. ‘Zeitgeist’ embodies the contradictory diversity of the present and its sensual contrasts. A conglomeration of sexiness and freshness, changeability and avant-garde, represented by the following ingredients: Sexiness: Amber Xtreme & Peru Balsam and Algae Absolue, Changeability: Musk complex of Nebulone & Edenolide, Avant-garde: Leatherwood.
