An ode to Parisian chic
‘When you think of a famous French perfume from the last century, it is undoubtedly a chypre.’
From the early 20th century onwards, the chypre accord was the height of fashion in Parisian society and has since been regarded as the epitome of classic French perfumery. In fact, the chypre note has been around since the 16th century, but it was not until the ‘Roaring Twenties’ that this fragrance note became fashionable in Parisian society.
Chypre 21, however, is a 21st-century accord. James Heeley has masterfully reworked the main ingredients of classic French chypre – bergamot, rose, patchouli, sandalwood and oakmoss – to create a clean, modern unisex fragrance.
True to classic French chypre, the accord is perfectly balanced so that no note dominates the others. The fragrance leaves a wonderful, slightly nostalgic trail with that certain Parisian chic that would have suited Grace Kelly, Jackie Onassis and, of course, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor perfectly.
