Houbigant - Collection Royale - Bois Mystique - Eau de Parfum Extrême

Houbigant is the only perfume house that can look back on a history spanning more than four centuries. They are proud to present innovative, high-quality products that have been created with attention to detail and using the most valuable and finest raw materials.

Bois Mystique is no exception. A modern, elegant fragrance that combines precious woods and spicy notes. A fragrance that evokes the feeling of a cosy campfire while appreciating magnificent sunsets. A fragrance with dense nuances of exotic woods that beguiles the senses.

The already high concentration has been slightly increased, raising it to the level of Eau de Parfum Extrême.

The fragrance

The top note combines fresh citrus accords with the spicy essences of bergamot, davana and ginger. Papyrus and incense in the heart note give the fragrance its mysterious, spicy facet. The base with amber and woody notes lends the fragrance its sensual and luxurious character.

The nose: Luca Maffei

Luca Maffei is the hope of young Italian perfumery. He completed his studies with Françoise Marin, perfumer and former director of the prestigious Roure School of Perfumery (Givaudan) in Grasse. He studied raw materials using the Jean-Charles method. He expanded his knowledge of different accords and legendary fragrances during an internship at a large fragrance company in Grasse. He began working as a perfumer's assistant in 2007. In 2011, he began developing his own creations. His perfumes have since been nominated for and won several awards.

The bottle

In collaboration with designer Jean-Christophe Gaydon, the classic crystal bottle originally created by Lalique at the beginning of the 20th century has been modernised. All the details of the original design have been retained, but the overall impression is more modern and ‘masculine’: each small square has been cut into the glass in a diamond shape to give the bottle more luminosity. The shoulder details of the bottle are inspired by the Art Deco style of the late 19th century. The front and back of the bottle have been curved to resemble cushions, adding further opulence.

The zamak cap

Zamak is the name given to a special zinc die-cast alloy that is very similar to the original bottle. The nickel-plated cap reinforces and emphasises the opulent overall impression. The details are reflected on the top of the cap, and the name Houbigant is engraved in Art Deco style on all four sides.

Men Collection

Since its foundation, Houbigant has perfumed the men who have shaped history: from Louis XVI to Napoleon to the Russian tsars. The Houbigant books record that Napoleon stopped at the Houbigant store during his 100-day campaign to fill his suitcases with perfume before continuing his march to regain power. Today, as then, Houbigant puts men at the centre of attention with a collection dedicated to them, consisting of precious raw materials and refined combinations.

Mehr über Houbigant

Back in 1775, Jean-François Houbigant opened a shop on Rue Faubourg St Honoré in Paris, thereby founding what was probably, without him knowing it, France's oldest perfume house. A hand-painted sign hung in front of the shop, depicting a basket of flowers, which earned it the name ‘A la Corbeille de Fleurs’. At that time, Houbigant sold gloves, perfumes and bridal bouquets. Houbigant's fragrances were particularly popular with the aristocracy, which allowed his business to flourish. Jean-François Houbigant died in 1807 and his son Armand-Gustave took over the company. In the same year, Houbigant was appointed court perfumer to Napoleon and created a fragrance for Empress Joséphine. His client list included such prominent names as Marie-Antoinette of France and Queen Victoria, from whom he received the title ‘Perfumer to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria of England’ in 1838.

In 1880, perfumer Paul Parquet became a partner in the company and was to shape it like no other. Parquet turned Houbigant into a global business and revolutionised the entire art of perfumery in the process, as he recognised how important synthetic fragrances were to become. For his fragrance ‘Fougère Royale’, launched in 1882, he used artificially produced coumarin for the first time. At the time, however, this revolution was kept secret from customers so as not to cast any doubt on the quality.

From 1912 onwards, it was perfumer Robert Bienaimé who worked for Houbigant until he founded his own company in 1935. His most famous fragrance was ‘Quelques Fleurs’, also featuring groundbreaking new synthetic substances, which became his greatest success and one of the company's best-selling perfumes.

Until 1950, the two perfumers Paul Schving and Marcel Billot worked for Houbigant. Billot's ‘Chantilly’ from 1941 became particularly famous at this time. Despite this long and often eventful company history, we are still delighted to be able to offer you the timeless classics of Houbigant today.
