For her incense fragrance Zagorsk, Evelyne Boulanger drew inspiration from the Russian city of Sergiev Posad which bore the name Sagorsk in Soviet times. Sergiev Posad is home to one of the most important centers of the Russian Orthodox Church: in the 14th Century monks founded the Trinity Lavra Monastery which today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The imposing monastery with its fortress -like character is still visible today and is the main tourist attraction of this otherwise industrial city near Moscow.
Monastic hints can be naturally be found in the fragrance by perfumer Evelyne Boulanger: Intense and strong smoky incense notes reminiscent of a dark cloister vault. Conifer notes and spicy pepper underline the cool dryness. Throughout the fragrance, Zagorsk develops a creamy- soft iris note whose delicate sweetness is accented with smoky-peppery notes.
A very complex and fine-meshed incense and conifer fragrance that offers a calming and meditative tranquility and also authentically conveys the contemplative mood of a monastery.
