The Indian fortress of Jaisalmer, which may be viewed as the namesake for this Comme des Garçons fragrance is interesting in two respects. Firstly, it is strategically located on a hill in the middle of the Thar Desert and was expanded into a fortress during the Middle Ages. Secondly, Jaisalmer is situated on the Silk Road trade route between India and the Middle East. As such, it was used by traders and their trade caravans as a stopover and staging post, which let Jaisalmer grow and thrive over the centuries.
The most important commodities of the Orient were spices and incense so it is not surprising that this scent is bursting with them. Dry and spicy cardamom and allspice open the fragrance and the latter brings a certain amount of warmth with it. This is taken up by incense, iridescent lignum vitae and dark ebony that enter into a smoky, spicy, almost balsamic-woody pact. Ambergris and benzoin sweeten the base and lend a sensual gourmand note.
