More about La Parfumerie Moderne
The little boy tiptoes up the marble stairs of an abandoned palace hotel. Once at the top, he sneaks into a huge suite. A perfume bottle glitters at him from a dusty bedside table. Fascinated, he examines the unlabelled bottle. Was it forgotten by the Indian princess who so often stayed in this apartment?
The perfume smells of lilac. Who could it belong to? Coty, Houbigant, Gabilla, Lenthéric? Was the perfume perhaps created especially for her? Little did he know that this small gift from the golden age of perfumery would hold his own future. To recapture the magic of that moment when he made his lucky find, Philippe Neirinck founded the house of La Parfumerie Moderne. The name of the house is a contradiction in terms. Modern perfumery was invented between the Belle Époque and the Jazz Age, when luxury hotels were springing up all over Europe to accommodate discerning, cosmopolitan travellers. The perfumer drew inspiration from this glamorous era and sends us mysterious fragrance messages from the timelessly elegant ambience of legendary European hotels.
It is no coincidence that Marc Antoine Corticchiato comes from Corsica, just like François Coty, who heralded the dawn of 20th-century perfumery. Defying every trend and fashion dictate, he teamed up with Philippe Neirinck to create sumptuous and complex fragrances inspired by these magnificent places.
