Andy Tauer - Golestan

The scent of a flower garden. An impressive and refined experience of gracefully blended flowers blooming in a timeless manner in a colourful place. The garden welcomes you with initial impressions of fresh citrus fruits and rich ylang-ylang. Bulgarian rose absolute softens the exuberant dose of white flower absolutes: sensual jasmine, voluptuous tuberose and erotic orange blossom. The exuberant blend of these natural absolutes results in a rich and dynamic floral perfume. The base is rich, with creamy patchouli and amber notes that combine with sweet and soft woods. Golestan references seductive classics, yet remains an uncompromisingly modern and original perfume.

Inspiration

‘It all began when I visited the Louvre in Paris in 2020. I stumbled upon a section I had never visited before, even though I had been to the Louvre a few times. The section was about Persian empires and history. It was a revelation!

I was fascinated by the splendour, the statues and the cultural heritage spanning more than 5,000 years. I began to discover more, read books and eventually discovered the palace called Golestan in Tehran in pictures. The palace, also known as the Rose Garden Palace and built in the 16th century, with its ornamental and figurative paintings on tiles, was pure inspiration. Golestan literally means city of flowers or garden of flowers.

Although I have not yet been able to travel to Iran, I have created a perfume that takes me there. It is an invitation to breathe in the fragrant air of a flower garden in freedom.’

Mehr über Andy Tauer

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, he simply appeared out of nowhere: fragrance guru Luca Turin stumbled across ‘L'Air du Désert’, the second fragrance by Andy Tauer, and was instantly captivated. Following enthusiastic fragrance reviews, the name Tauer began to appear in various fragrance forums and perfume blogs worldwide, marking the beginning of his unbroken rise to fame. Numerous newspapers and magazines reported on him, and his quiet life in the Alpine republic was over for the time being.

Unlike most perfumers today, Andy Tauer never attended a perfume school or received any specific training. Originally a chemist, he is entirely self-taught in the art of perfumery – his only motivation is his passion, his love of perfume and the idea of creating something unique: "Perfumery the classical way, perfumes created with love", as his self-chosen motto promises.

Putting his heart and soul into his work, Andy Tauer has now created numerous perfumes, and we hope that many more will follow. All his fragrances are handmade in small batches in Zurich using the highest quality ingredients. He has rightly built up a fan base around the world who love his fragrances and enthusiastically follow the creation process of new creations in his uniquely lovingly crafted fragrance blog.

super auch fur manner

The sillage and the longevity of this are both through the roof for this very lovely floral fragrance.

Ylang-ylang, the dominant note, does not lean as feminine as the indolic white florals behind it, so even though this does lean feminine, I can see many men wearing this (even given that men often shy away from white florals).

The base notes (amber, vanilla, and patchouli among them) also help round this off by enriching it and deepening it without making it too dense or too sweet.

This does smell like a beautiful Middle Eastern garden, so the name is wonderfully fitting.
