The Moulin Rouge, the famous and historic variety theatre in the Montmartre district of Paris, celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2009. Histoires de Parfums is dedicated to the art of traditional French perfumery and the 19th century, so it is no surprise that the official signature fragrance for the anniversary of the long-established Parisian nightclub comes from this house.
Moulin Rouge – a name that evokes associations. It recalls the turn of the century, the salon culture and dance theatre with its (for the time) scantily clad dancers; lavish powder puffs, red velvet and heavy brocade; frivolity, exuberance, joy and eroticism.
With Moulin Rouge 1889, Histoires de Parfums has succeeded in capturing the Parisian spirit of the late 19th century in all its facets. A certain component runs like a red thread through the fragrance: the smell of loose powder. Not in the classic, skinny sense, but with a creamy dryness whose subtle sweetness is reminiscent of dried fruit. As the fragrance develops, velvety soft iris and gentle leather notes emerge, blending into a harmonious mélange and transitioning into a floral heart where fruity plum notes meet creamy, spicy cinnamon. Furthermore, one encounters a companion that is associated with the 19th century like no other: absinthe. Its slightly bitter wormwood scent combines with full-bodied, balsamic patchouli and is softly caught by lovely musk notes.
Moulin Rouge 1889 – a unique, truly worthy anniversary fragrance.
