Neon Amber opens with bright mandarin and pink pepper, dominated by tonka absolute and enhanced by dry cedar leaf. In the base note, new-gen perfumer Jérôme Di Marino has modernised resinous rockrose with fresh, mineral ambroxan to create a warm and mysterious scent.

The perfumer's intention
This fragrance is the second that new-gen perfumer Jérôme Di Marino has created for Molton Brown. It began as a very personal project, as a fragrance from his favourite fragrance family that he wanted to wear himself. Always on the lookout for new interpretations of classic notes, Jérôme has reinvented one of the industry's most famous accords – Amber 83.

Amber 83 was created in 1889 by the legendary perfume house De Laire and became a benchmark for oriental fragrances. Since 2015, Jérôme had been thinking about revisiting this traditional structure and has introduced new ingredients to this exciting, unprecedented creation.

"I wanted to revive the oriental fragrance family and create something very unusual and unexpected. This fragrance is a daring reinvention of the iconic Amber 83 accord. I replaced vanilla with tonka bean, which is very rich and sensual and has an opulent creaminess; I see it as the new vanilla. I also modernised resinous cistus with fresh, mineral ambroxan. In 1973, a hair salon called Molton Brown opened at 58 Molton Street in London's Mayfair district. The salon was special from the outset, as late 1970s London was characterised by the use of synthetic products and artificial mass-produced goods. At Molton Brown, however, they worked with gentle products and placed particular emphasis on their naturalness. The haircuts were also creatively tailored to the individuality of each customer, rather than following the dictates of the masses. The hair salon was a resounding success, which was to continue unabated from then on. The first care products were mixed by hand on the upper floor using nettle and chamomile. In 1978, Dale Daxon Bowers joined the Molton Brown team from Mary Quant Cosmetics and set up a cosmetics laboratory in the kitchen above the salon. Dale's passion, creativity and belief that nature should be at the heart of their new developments was the origin of a completely new range. She was a perfectionist and followed her own path.


By the 1980s, the small salon had grown into a Molton Brown shop selling Dale's plant-based products, including make-up, body and skin care cosmetics, and hair care products. Soon they were supplying shops, airlines and hotels all over the world.


Two decades later, the development team has moved from its makeshift laboratory to a more prestigious facility in Hertfordshire, just outside London. Although the company is now much larger, it is still driven by the same passion.

The substances used in Molton Brown products are sourced from natural sources wherever possible and are gently processed to preserve their natural properties.

The various ingredients are sourced from a wide range of locations around the world. As part of its corporate philosophy, Molton Brown is also committed to environmental and climate protection and strives to implement this in its own production. This is achieved, for example, by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and waste production.

Hin und her gerissen

Ich würde Neon Amber so gerne mögen, aber irgendetwas passt nicht! Seltsamer Weise nicht immer, manchmal ist er zum dahinschmelzen schön, vor allem in der Basis und dann wiederum mag ich ihn gar nicht.
Neon Amber fängt so gut an. Ein Opening genauso wie ich es mag: schön herb knallt mir die Mandarine mit einer ordentlichen Dosis Pfeffer in die Nase. Das Ganze wird aber schnell von der Tonkabohne gedimmt. Er bleibt für mein Emfinden völlig unsüss oder zumindest gerade so eben angezuckert. Die Zedernblätter setzen auch recht schnell ein und  erfrischen, es wird herrlich grün. Rasch folgt Ambroxan und Labdanum,  so das der Duft wärmer wird.  Ein echt schneller Duftverlauf hat dieses Parfum, denn man ist Ruck Zuck in der Basis. Neon Amber duftet zum Schluss ambriert und ganz leicht würzig grün von den Zedernblättern und ich sehe mich schon in einer kuscheligen Amberwolke, mit einem wohligen Lächeln versinken.....da strahlt aus einer Ecke ein furchtbar grelles,  künstliches, Licht in meine Augen! Dazu wird es auch noch eiskalt! Mach die Tür zu, es zieht! Herrje, wer stört mich denn hier in meiner kuscheligen Amberwelt?
Ich weiß es nicht. Es ist eine Duftnote in der Basis die fast schon metallisch kalt riecht und die bei mir einen Abwaschzwang auslöst. Ich nehme sie nicht immer wahr, aber wenn, dann entwickelt sich das bei mir zu einer Vollkatastrophe. Das ist so schade, denn der Duft ist eigentlich toll! Vielleicht liegt das an meiner Hautchemie, irgendwas passt nicht.  Also werde ich weiter nach einem Amberduft suchen. Ich bin mir sicher, dass auch ich einen passenden finden werde.
