The heart note of Portrayal Woman by Amouage is a smoky yet sweet blend of fig, tobacco and a hint of vanilla. Together with jasmine as the top note and elemi as the base note, the fragrance revives the liberation of the 1920s.
Elemi resin is a light yellow substance with a honey-like consistency.
Aromatic elemi oil is distilled from the resin using steam. It is a fragrant resin with a sharp pine and lemon scent. The floral perfume is perfect for the playfully sophisticated woman who dares to stand up to others. It also contains the sensuality and seductive power of tuberose.
The glass crystal bottles characteristic of Amouage feature a rainbow-coloured mother-of-pearl finish, embellished with a blue Swarovski crystal. The packaging is a delicate muted blue with an elegant Art Deco-inspired jacquard.
The inspiration
Portrayal embodies the artist's ability to connect fragments of different times and places. When society itself is unproductive, he manages to immerse himself in the freedom of rebellion, as in London's wild 1920s and New York's groove of the 1980s. Artists lose themselves in the extravagant, glamorous and often dissatisfied society of talented young people. Desperate to fill the void, they use synergies from art, culture and themselves to create something infinitely indefinable.
The fifth chapter of the second cycle of the Amouage narrative by Creative Director Christopher Chong is Portrayal, an expression of a person's turn towards themselves. A reflection of his or her unique authenticity. It is about freeing oneself from the cages of loneliness that society forces upon us, fighting to break free, as self-discovered truths are often seen as frighteningly unconventional.
‘A person who dares to defy societal norms; Portrayal is for the fearless and the brave,’ says Chong. ‘Portrayal was inspired by times of dramatic social change and by people who transcend the boundaries of the mass culture of their time. It is a reflection of the dawn of a new era and the freedoms that come with it.’
