Memories of the past? More than of the future. Papyrus / 71 is the apex of two eras.
A reminder of the great success launched by the perfumer in 2003. Papyrus Oud / 71 is the future of this accord, the modernised past, the student surpassing the master, inimitably neo-retro by none other than Michel Almairac.
Geographically, or let's say culturally, this creation is the perfect meeting point between the Middle East and the West. The spiritual tradition of incense and precious woods, including papyrus, the emblem of Lower Egypt and the Renaissance, is the highlight, elaborated with the subtle delicacy of Western accords. A walk along the Nile with a view of the Eiffel Tower. An oriental place in the heart of Hyde Park. Take your mind on a unique journey.
The grandchild of the famous fragrance Gucci pour Homme, created by Michel Almairac in 2003 when Tom Ford was creative director at Gucci. The main accord is based on papyrus, which is mainly grown in Egypt, and Somali incense. However, Papyrus Oud / 71 is different in its daring side, more pronounced than Gucci pour Homme I, which had a drier and smokier facet. Papyrus is a little-known and little-used note, but it has many facets similar to vetiver. Warm, round and yet almost refreshing, papyrus brings out a dry, woody and slightly spicy fruity note.
This incense has something of an ‘old church’ quality, bringing out all the smoky, dry and tobacco-like aspects of the formula. This ingredient is reminiscent of oriental palaces, places of worship where incense is always burning. Other materials are also used and are particularly noticeable after a while or on the skin, such as oud (from Cambodia), musk and an almost chocolatey accord.
Papyrus Oud / 71 is a masculine-sounding fragrance that can also be worn by women. Suitable for anyone who likes powerful, woody, spicy and smoky notes.
