Twilight had fallen. The horses neighed with fatigue. It was time to stop. The men saw a resting place; their bodies were exhausted and dusty. The shadow of the Kashmir mountains towered over the great plain with its low grasses. Despite the cool evening air, the weather remained mild.
Emperor Alexander was gathering his troops. The journey had been difficult. Copper helmet in hand, he brandished his sword in front of the crowd. He pointed towards a dark sky, streaked with pale clouds. The moon slipped in and out of view, its face ablaze. It projected a silver hue onto the blade’s edge, illuminating the entire plain with a blinding ray. It was the symbol of complete power. Slowly, the camp fell into a restful sleep.
Early the next morning, the men could not believe their eyes. The ground was covered in a purple coat. Millions of flowers, as far as the eye could see, had appeared over the course of one night. Faced with such a miracle, Emperor Alexander sought out his advisors. The signs were not favourable. Horns sounded the retreat. The white flag was raised. The men cleared the plain within a few hours. The wind picked up. The purple crocus sativus (saffron flowers) slowly waved their petals. Peace and calm were restored.
The perfumer’s words
The second opus is ‘Silver Saffron’, can you tell us what inspired you ? How would you define the universe of this perfume ? What gives this fragrance an X factor?
In Silver Saffron, I wanted to magnify the primary ingredient, saffron. I played around with the red fruit accents of saffron with a colourful and juicy lychee, creating a contrast with its spicy tones right from the start. I wrapped the metallic and striking accents of saffron in an iridescent note that is both powdery and woody, bringing true sophistication to the fragrance. Finally, I emphasized its leathery facets with a note of suede and cistus, as well as the smoky, racy, and liqueur-like accents of Papyrus. It is the power of the leathery and fruity trail of ‘Silver Saffron’ that makes the saffron both atypical and accessible in this extrait. – Jérôme Di Marino
