The orange tree represents fertility and abundance, as its fruits and flowers bloom at the same time. However, it also represents innocence and symbolises eternal love. In fact, it was once customary to wear orange blossoms as a wreath or to adorn oneself with a bridal bouquet of orange blossoms on one's wedding day. This custom originated in ancient China. Queen Victoria of England, one of the most valued customers of the House of Houbigant, adopted the tradition of wearing a crown of orange blossoms on her wedding day in 1840.
The orange tree is one of the most popular trees among perfumers. It is a source of diverse and incredible fragrances: essential orange oil extracted from the peel, orange blossom absolute obtained from the flowers, neroli distilled by steaming the flowers, petitgrain and eau de brouts obtained from the leaves, twigs and branches of the tree.
The creation of the fragrance
Orangers en Fleurs is the result of a collaboration between Houbigant and master perfumer Jacques Flori from Robertet. The aim was to create a new fragrance that embodies the spirit and tradition of Houbigant. Houbigant has more than 200 years of experience in perfume manufacturing. Today, Houbigant's mission is not only to revive formulas from the past, but also to create forward-looking compositions developed from the finest raw materials of the highest purity.
This sophisticated fragrance derives its appeal from the warm and floral accord of orange blossom. Turkish rose and Egyptian jasmine absolute are highlighted by a subtle combination of tuberose and orange blossom. Floral ylang-ylang from the Comoros is delicately refined with nutmeg. The base is pure perfection, a blend of cedarwood and sensual musk.
The Eau de Parfum
The bottle dates back to the early 20th century and was originally designed and manufactured by Baccarat for Houbigant, but has been modernised for this fragrance. The bottle was originally developed for the fragrance ‘Idéal’, which was presented at the World's Fair in Paris in 1900.
