Acqua di Genova was created in 1853 for the Italian royal house of Savoy. Vittorio Emanuele II was so enthusiastic about the fragrance that he appointed its creator, Stefano Frecceri, as purveyor to the royal court. Its popularity grew steadily, and over the years it has received countless prizes, awards, and gold medals.
