Amongst the transcendental woods of the 1800s, craftsmen from the Massachusetts Bay Colony built violins and bows in the tiny towns of the Pioneer Valley. The bowmakers’ shops were riddled with aged mahogany, burled maple shavings, amber pine rosin, aged walnut and their unique secret varnishes.
Bowmakers is a unisex composition that offers a wealth of woody- resinous notes that bring the hallowed atmosphere of the violin and bow maker’s workshop to life. The notes reveal the art of violin making with an “outdoor accord” that recalls the darkening process of the violin where it was left to dry in the air and sun. A note of “violin varnish” harkens back to the closely-guarded and secret recipes that were handed down from father to son and amber pine rosin lets the heart note vibrate like a well-tuned bowstring.
