Tiziana Terenzi - Ilba

The soul of the paradisiacal and historic island of Elba has been transformed into a deeply emotional fragrance: Ilba. The perfume is a tribute to this island and its legends: an essence that embodies the sweetness of its fruits, the scent of its flowers and the depth of its roots. On a trip across the crystal-clear Tyrrhenian Sea, the island of Elba reveals itself in all its majestic beauty. This magical place is a fascinating combination of magnificent, wild nature and ancient traditions, a unique piece of paradise on earth.

On one of their exploratory trips, Paolo and Tiziana fell under the spell of the timeless atmosphere of this island, which boasts a legendary history, rich folk traditions and a landscape of rare beauty. One of the many stories told by the locals particularly touched them: the legend of Princess Alba and the knight Sabino, whose loving souls were not allowed to be together by divine will. The goddess Venus, guardian of their dreams, transformed the island into their refuge, but the failure to pay tribute to the goddess condemned their love to tormented eternity. It is said that Alba's cries still echo today in the ruins of the Roman complex Le Grotte near Portoferraio; a cry that is an expression of never-ending hope and touches the heart. Paolo Coelho wrote: ‘I have learned that the world has a soul, and whoever understands this soul will understand the language of things.’ These words seem to express the spirit of Elba, where every path, every breath of wind, every fruit conveys a profound, universal message.

Paolo and Tiziana wanted to capture the essence of this extraordinary place and its history of eternal love and transform it into a fragrance: Ilba. With Ilba, you embark on an olfactory journey to celebrate love, nature and the magic of a timeless island.

The perfume opens with a bouquet that evokes the delicate freshness of spring. Japanese cherry blossom petals blend with the mildness of Tuscan apricot blossom and are given an exotic touch of Indian jasmine. Lavender and juniper leaves from the island of Elba add a herbaceous, aromatic note that echoes the sea breeze. The heart notes of Ilba unfold a sensual, fruity opulence. Tuscan peach blossom blends with juicy red cherry from Romagna, and magnolia from Elba lends the whole a refined elegance. Hints of musk and a touch of fresh oxygen are reminiscent of the pure island air floating between the sea and the sky. The base notes convey all the original power of Elba: intense woody strawberry tree from the Maremma, combined with Tuscan birch, red elm and juniper wood from the island. Ambergris, which lends depth and sensuality, rounds off the fragrance composition with an enveloping, lingering touch. Ilba is a sign of special feelings, a journey into the deepest corners of the heart, where every note speaks of the eternal embrace between nature and emotion.

The Terenzi family: the story of men and women who understood how to capture the ‘absolute’ in a drop of perfume and ‘life’ in a ‘drop of wax’.

The Cereria Terenzi

The Cereria Terenzi was founded 40 years ago in Cattolica, in a space measuring just 16 square metres (172 square feet). The founder, Evelino Terenzi, wanted to continue the family tradition with a great deal of innovation, as his father Guglielmo had been involved in setting up a wax production business that made devotional and Easter candles for churches. He initially worked with his father and mother, who was called Luigia, until he pursued his own interest in making birthday candles. He owed his initial success to the invention of a new type of wax that made candles more resistant to impact, but also to his own idea of making candles that could essentially be used as food without posing any health risks. He decided to use food-grade paraffin, which greatly improved the safety of the candles. This was particularly innovative at the time, as environmental and health issues were not nearly as important as they are today. From then on, the company grew to become the most important wax producer in Italy and one of the most important in Europe. This provided work for many people. Today, San Giovanni in Marignano is at the forefront of the company. Just a few kilometres away in Cattolica live Evelino's children, Paolo and Tiziana, who carry on the spirit of the founder and his respect for this ancient and fine craft, a craft whose origins are lost in the mists of time.

Paolo and Tiziana made a conscious decision to continue on this path of respect for the environment, their employees and the health of their customers. Tiziana Terenzi, manager, design and creative director, says: ‘A candle is beauty; you cannot create beauty without also creating well-being. Beautiful things must also be good things.’ This is why the Cereria has received many awards over the years, including the ‘Crescita Responsabile’ prize, which is awarded to companies that stand out for their ethical approach, their concern for social issues and environmental protection, and their membership of the Banca delle Eccelenze to promote the ‘Made in Italy’ concept. Recognition and awards are undoubtedly a sign of appreciation. However, when you hear the Terenzi siblings talk about the history of the company, it becomes clear how much they value the idea of following in the footsteps of their father Evelino in terms of fairness and correctness: his ancestors were also pioneers of an ancient and honourable craft, which has now been enriched by innovative technology and ethical business practices. In the land of engines and mechanics, technical ingenuity becomes creativity, which in turn is expressed in functional design and a tireless passion for research and development.
