We want to celebrate the things we have in common; the things that connect us, that bind us together; that remind us that we are one human family. Brothers and sisters.
The June 28 perfume by 19-69 celebrates the place where pride began. Keywords that describe the fragrance are ‘enigmatic,’ ‘hot leather’ and ‘gourmet.’ The fragrance notes include black pepper, cumin and myrrh absolute.
Johan Bergelin: "People knew it as an unholy place that society railed against and warned people about. On Christopher Street in NYC was the Stonewall Inn, a seedy bar frequented by drag queens and outsiders. The area became the birthplace of the Stonewall riots, one of the most important social turning points of 1969. As reported in the New York Sunday News: “Homo nest devastated. The queen bees are stinging like crazy. Before the riots that started on Christopher Street, you never went outside. Only inside.”
In a green part of the suburb, there is a beautiful street with well-kept houses and blooming gardens. This includes the home of Jim Olmeyer and Jim Berkley and their little dog Bitsy, who tends to bark a lot. New to the area, however, is the Fitts family. The father, US Marine Colonel Frank Fitts, has a stern crew cut and wears a classic brown cardigan with a checked shirt. With his reading glasses on his head, he studies the newspaper at the kitchen table while his wife prepares breakfast. The doorbell rings.
Frank: ‘Are you expecting anyone?’
Mrs. Fitts: ‘No. No!’
Frank opens the door to find Jim and Jim waiting, both eager to welcome their new neighbours to the community. They are wearing suits and ties, and a pleasant scent wafts through the air as they present a wicker basket generously filled with home-grown vegetables, pasta and fresh, colourful flowers.
Jim O: ‘Hi!’
Jim B: ‘Welcome to the neighbourhood.’
Jim O: ‘It's just a little something from our garden.’
Jim B: ‘Except for the pasta. We bought that at Fallaci's.’
Jim O: ‘That's right. It's incredibly fresh. You just throw it in the water and it's ready. Jim Olmeyer. Two doors down. Welcome to the neighbourhood.’
Frank: ‘Colonel Frank Fitts, U.S. Marine Corps.’
Jim O: ‘Nice to meet you. This is my partner.’
Jim B.: ‘Jim Berkley, but people call me J. B.’
Frank: ‘Let's get right to the point, okay? What are you guys selling?’
Jim B: ‘Nothing. We just wanted to say hello to our new neighbours.’
Frank: ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah... You said you're partners? So what's your business?’
Jim O: ‘Well... he's a tax accountant.’
Jim B: ‘And he's an anaesthesiologist.’
The scent journey of the Eau de Parfum June 28 is based on a scene from the drama film American Beauty (1999).
