With ‘Un Cœur en Mai’, perfumer Patricia de Nicolaï, already well known and appreciated for her own line, MDCI, presents us with a very special gem: ‘Un Cœur en Mai’, a heart in May – not only does the name sound lyrical to our ears, the fragrance itself is truly poetic.
The top notes of ‘Un Cœur en Mai’ feature delicate citrus hints of bergamot and petitgrain. These are complemented by fruity notes of tart blackcurrant and melon, while galbanum creates a green, grassy background. The heart is dominated by soft floral tones: mimosa, geranium, lily of the valley and Moroccan rose, which are contrasted by a pinch of coriander and black pepper, giving them depth. The base underscores the light fragrance with woody notes, lucid musk and a clean, subtle soapy tendency.
Un Cœur en Mai reminds us of Erich Kästner's May poem: May, that cheerful spendthrift, who, with a sceptre of flowers in his hand, blooms profusely and yet combines melancholy and joy. Nicolaï's May heart is green and blooming, exuding exuberant optimism and at the same time a little sentimental, shy and yet full of sparkling joie de vivre – a spring fragrance par excellence!
