The history of Pineider began in Florence, in Piazza della Signora, where Francis Pineider, originally from Val Gardena, opened his first shop in 1774. He crafted refined and sophisticated stationery and jewellery and offered his embossed paper in various colours and designs.
He soon gained a reputation among famous poets and writers, from Stendhal to Lord Byron, Shelley, Leopardi and Dickens. It is said that even Napoleon visited his workshop. At the beginning of the 19th century, Pineider expanded the company in view of its great success and became purveyor to the Italian royal house of Savoy.
In the 20th century, Pineider became the supplier of choice for stationery and invitation cards for embassies, cultural events and the Italian authorities. Pineider began to produce particularly elegant accessories such as watches, picture frames, fountain pens and the first exclusive travel bags made of calfskin. Over the years, Pineider has been favoured by famous names such as Eleonora Duse, Gabriele D'Annunzio, Luigi Pirandello, Henry Ford, Marlene Dietrich and Elizabeth Taylor, who expressed the legendary wish to have writing paper that matched her eye colour.
Pineider's perfumer: Luca Maffei
‘The work on the Pineider perfume collection began with a study of the brand and a brief presentation of its products by the brand manager, who gave me the opportunity to interpret the brand according to my own vision. From the outset, I wanted to convey it as an Italian brand in particular. So I decided to develop themes based on the great fragrances of my country, using all the precious raw materials that grow in Italy. The perfume names came after the creation; once I had created a fragrance, I chose a name that evoked Italian images and made it easier to understand the fragrance notes. My idea was to take the great traditional Italian perfumes, such as colognes and classic bouquets, and reinterpret them in a modern way. Each of these creations is balanced and elegant, yet intense and enveloping, thanks to careful research into how to combine natural raw materials with the latest generation of synthetic molecules in a unique and harmonious way. Pineider fragrances are modern and contemporary to meet the desires of customers, and are therefore up to date and on trend. When creating luxury perfumes, the basic rule is that extensive and careful research into the desired raw materials must first be carried out to ensure the highest quality and purity of the products.’ – Luca Maffei, perfumer.
