The mountainous coasts of Eastern Mexico blended into the warm, damp veil of late summer. In Veracruz, the daughter of King Tenitzi III, a devastating beauty nicknamed Estrella de la Mañana, loved to walk alone, discovering the hidden corners of the dense forest. Bold and determined, Estrella de la Mañana was considered by all to be the future queen of the Totonac Kingdom.
One morning while she was running through the plains, she met the gaze of a young boy with antlers – the Deer Prince. They exchanged only a few words, but the magic of love was set in motion.
When King Tentizi III learned of this romance, he became blind with rage. He sent his priests after them. The sky darkened. He decided that the souls of Morning Star and the Deer Prince would be sacrificed to calm the wrath of the Gods. Tears of their blood gave birth to a small shrub. The branches intertwined like lovers in their last embrace. Star-shaped flowers covered the entire tree. A few days later, many shoots rose out of the ground and the first strands of black vanilla swayed in the wind, whispering the fragrance of the missing lovers.
The perfumer’s words
Finally, you sign the very daring ‘Estrella de la Mañana’, in what way is this accord original? Is there an element of darkness in it? How did you approach this composition?
It is true that the bias of this new extract might be surprising! The perfume indeed plays on a very pronounced dimension of darkness. First, the darkness of sweet and refined black vanilla, whose spicy facets are reinforced by the powerful smoky and leathery note of birch essence. But it is also the darkness of the cocoa bean, which is both addictive and bitter. It is supported by a Jungle Essence benzoin whose resinous and chocolaty notes reinforce its dark facets. Lastly, I could not compose this new extract without cistus absolute. It supports everything with its amber note as well as its incense accents, which bring a sparkling glow like the sky before dawn.
‘Estrella de la Mañana’ (Morning Star) combines the passion of a Vanilla/Cocoa duo with the accents of burning firewood, giving it a unique sillage. — Jérôme Di Marino
