Mehr über Amouage
Since ancient times, the legendary land of Oman has been famous for its unique incense and exotic perfumes. However, trade in this precious product and the entire perfume industry experienced many ups and downs and at times even fell into obscurity. Fortunately, this period came to an end in 1983 when the Omani royal family, under His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, commissioned His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al bu Said, also a member of the royal family, to bring the ancient Arabian perfume culture back to their homeland in order to revive it. This event marked the birth of the Amouage perfume house, a luxurious, internationally oriented fragrance house with oriental roots. Sayyid Hamand spared no expense or effort to realise his vision. The result was the house's first fragrance, the classic ‘Gold’. Launched to worldwide acclaim, the perfume was an instant success. The name Amouage was carefully chosen. Although it sounds French, it is a purely conceptual term, combining the Arabic word ‘amwaj’, meaning wave, with the French word for love, ‘amour’. In a broader sense, Amouage therefore means ‘the waves of emotion’. The unique name reflects the spirit of the fragrances, their grace, their splendour and their feeling – a very special gift for all those you love!
The factory, as well as the head office and a visitor exhibition, was built in Sib, near the Omani capital Muscat. Every fragrance that leaves the house is given its final touch by hand there. In addition to its own stores in Muscat, Amouage is sold in over 28 countries around the world and is only available in carefully selected perfumeries and department stores, such as Harrods in London and Bergdorf Goodman in New York. Amouage is the only non-American, European or Japanese product ever to win the prestigious title of ‘Star Product of the Year’. This award, presented annually in Cannes, is considered the ‘Oscar’ of the luxury goods industry. All brands that have ever received this award are at the forefront of the industry. Many royal families, aristocrats and celebrities around the world are regular customers of Amouage. The Royal House of Oman presents products from the brand as gifts to foreign heads of state and dignitaries, making Amouage fragrances a true gift of kings. The House of Amouage is proud to have brought the art of Arabic perfumery back home. By combining modern French expertise and technology with Arabic traditions and raw materials, Amouage has succeeded in setting new standards and bringing about significant innovations.
The exquisite fragrances of the House of Amouage undoubtedly deserve a bottle that is elegant, extraordinary and luxurious. The design of the women's bottle is inspired by the graceful shape of the Muscat Mosque, while the men's bottle depicts the hilt of the famous ‘Khanjar’, the traditional Arabic dagger featured on the coat of arms of the Omani flag. Both bottles are reminiscent of the goldsmithing of ancient Egypt and, like their contents, reflect traditional Arabic craftsmanship.
