The scent Female Christ is intended to ensure that the memory of an art performance at the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 1969 lives on forever. Earthy, woody and honest.
Johan Bergelin: ‘In 1969, a naked woman carried a cross and walked through the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The performance was called “Female Christ”. The social revolution and constant pushing of boundaries in the late 1960s meant that artists’ forms of expression were constantly taking new directions.
Some artists challenged prevailing values and behaviours in society by using performance art. However, this also means that important voices and parts of the art history of this period are in danger of fading away, as they only exist as photographs or film recordings. The creation of a 19-69 fragrance with the same name is intended to make the work immortal.’
The fragrance journey of Female Christ: The Long Walk
‘We arrived by taxi; I was naked under my black coat and pressed the cross to my stomach... I was wonderfully nervous... But suddenly they were full of energy. David stood at the exit filming and Bjørn took the tape recorder and my clothes, then I started to walk. I remember that suddenly a rope blocked my way. I hadn't expected that, it was strange, but then I just kept walking with the cross, holding it up first and then down, like a yo-yo. Then it was over. You could have heard a pin drop! Someone shouted, ‘But – you can't do that!’ and ‘Goodness gracious! Look, Sørensen, look!’ Then we went out to the waiting taxi and drove away.’
