‘I had the opportunity to live every perfumer's dream. To experience the magnificent olfactory properties of the wonderful Rose de Taif. To see where it grows, to talk to the people who nurture and care for it. I hope that I can convey at least some of the enthusiasm for this fragrance that I experienced through these encounters.’ Gian Luca Perris, Perris Group
The roses of Taif
During his numerous trips to the Middle East, and in particular to Saudi Arabia, Perris discovered an incredible ingredient that is very rarely used in the modern perfume industry: rose oil from Taif.
Taif is a beautiful city with a glorious history, a rich culture and a unique geographical location in Saudi Arabia. The Arabian desert dominates the climate of Saudi Arabia. The region around Taif is semi-arid, with temperatures ranging from 0 degrees in cold winters to 55 degrees in very hot summers. It is in this extraordinary climate that the Taif rose grows.
The Taif rose is grown on a mountain. It is a very steep area between 1,500 and 2,200 metres above sea level. The altitude has a very strong influence on the weather conditions and gives the city of Taif a wonderful climate, with relatively cold winters, very pleasant spring and autumn temperatures and wonderfully warm summers.
For this reason, Taif is one of the most popular tourist regions and has been one of the best areas for growing fruit, vegetables and flowers since time immemorial.
Approximately 12,000 rose blossoms are needed to produce 10 grams of this precious oil.
A tribute to the Rose of Taif
It was the Perris family's wish to present this rare, precious and incomparable ingredient in perfumery.
The Rose de Taif fragrance was created with the aim of treating it like a precious diamond. Just as a diamond needs a beautiful setting, Perris gave the Rose of Taif a central place in this harmonious accord, combined with other precious raw materials.
