Black Pepper is an electric collision of molecules: the crash of spicy pepper seeds suspended within infinite darkness. A powerful subversion of olfactive convention. An incessant investigation of the perpetually unknown.
A Modern Enigma
A revolution of perfume’s linear narrative, there is a permanent depth to its character; no dissolution of its darkness, no recession from intensity. Encased within an amorphous, tactile flask of mesmerizing midnight gloss, its form is as captivating as its fragrance. Charged with ceaseless magnetism, Blackpepper is a modern enigma: the luxurious scent of an endless abyss.
Decoding Spice
Warm, dry Madagascan pepper cracks against fiery cedarwood. Rich, fragrant Akigalawood (patchouli, agarwood) fuses with the caramel resin of tonka bean. Precious seeds and opulent woods blend in blazing harmony, laced with a musky accord. A profound reinvention of familiar exoticism: spice is deconstructed, destabilized, decoded. A resonant reverberation of dynamic intensity. Spice, seen through the transformative gaze of Comme des Garçons.
The Artist Collaboration
To communicate and express the uniqueness of Blackpepper, Comme des Garçons has reached out to Katerina Jebb for the creation of a special video which will be unveiled in Fall 2016.
Katerina Jebb’s unorthodox approach to image making creates mirrors of our worlds, offering fleeting moments of escape from the tangible universe. Whether through scanning and subverting photographs and thus transporting them into another realm, or filming flamingos reflected on a perfume bottle, her ceaseless search for beauty and meaning sits outside the confines of convention.
Jebb has been collaborating with Comme des Garçons for over 20 years on creative projects. Her explorations of contemporary consumerism are most evident in her darkly witty and astute satirical video series Simalcrum and Hyperbole, but what consistently defines her oeuvre is her artistic investigation of truth, beauty and connection.
