The Fragrance - Bal d'Afrique
The inspiration for this vetiver-based fragrance was Paris in the late twenties, with its affinity for African art and culture and its enthusiasm for African music and dance. Gorham wanted to create a warm and romantic vetiver interpretation, a mélange of Parisian modernism and African culture. A fragrance both dynamic and unique in its expression and statement that reflects the euphoria and excessive lifestyle of the time in all its intensity.
Bal d'Afrique is an unusual and atypical vetiver fragrance. The top notes, citric and unfamiliar, lead to a very pleasant and flattering heart that extends into the deeper base notes. An airy, aromatic and indefinable spiciness in harmony with floral notes supported by a slightly woody and ambery warmth and accompanied by a subtle smoky-sweet vetiver. Bal d´Afrique is more an aura than a perfume that masters the balancing act between exotic promises and trusted familiarity in a very remarkable way.
